SAA has recently been and currently is involved with a number of international universities and institutions such as AA School (UK), Bartlett University College (UK), Tsinghua University (China), University of Texas at Arlington (US), University of Westminster (UK), University at Buffalo (US), ESSEC Paris (France) etc. These international relationships ensure that SAA is always in dialogue with the world design community.
Some of the activities taken up jointly with some of the associated universities in the recent past include:
AA Visiting School, India
AAVS Delhi NCR was hosted at the SAA in December 2018 and investigated how we could resolve the global problem of air pollution within an infrastructure and create innovative solutions to combat climate change. It operated as a laboratory of technologically-driven architectural investigation. The workshop explored innovative ways of pollutant capturing, lightweight, composite structures using digital technologies. Within this workshop, participants from all across the world including China, Australia etc. visited SAA and attempted the design and prototyping of a scaled installation having a strong socio-technological impact working together as a collaborative team.
Bartlett, University College London, UK
SAA students were awarded reduced fee participation at the summer schools offered by Bartlett UCL in 2019. Various students from SSAA took part in the programme, and learnt about cultural, social and technological aspects of architecture from the UK. The exposure allowed students to become the part of a highly qualified academic community and build contacts with their subject peers and leaders from across the world.
Tsinghua University, China
As a part of strengthening relationship between SAA and Tsinghua, and commitment of both institutions to priority knowledge and resource sharing with each other, two students from the Sushant School of Art and Architecture were awarded fully funded participation including tuition fee and accommodation at a summer course by the Chinese University. The SAA participants used this opportunity to acquaint themselves with a completely new culture, and practices and methods of architecture and urbanism prevalent in the dynamic country of China.
University of Texas at Arlington, US and ESSEC Paris, France
Academic groups of students and eminent professors from UTA and ESSEC visited SSAA in 2019 to understand the architectural and urban transformations taking place in India. These groups, along with various SSAA students, participated in lectures and workshops hosted by SAA faculty. The school also curated various visits to important architectural sites for these guests, and involved them in the on-going academic activities at the school.
Other Academic Visits
Professors, academics and students from numerous institutions have visited SAA in 2018 and 2019 to be a part of the school’s initiatives. Some renowned names include: Prof. Roger Connah from Carleton University, Canada; Prof. Yolande Barnes from Bartlett UCL, UK; Prof. Daniel Hess from University at Buffalo, US and Prof. Samir Pandya, University of Westminster, UK, among several others. Their involvement has allowed SSAA students to learn from their expert insights and extend their knowledge base to wider global discourses in the subjects of architecture and urbanism.
