Bachelors of Fine Arts- A 4-year degree programme

The B.F.A with specializations in Applied Art and Painting is a four-year programme instituted under Sushant University School of Art and Architecture and is designed to fulfil the creative aspirations of the students, who after their +2, are keen on pursuing an artistic career. The B.F.A course at Sushant enables the development of creative thinking and expression in the mind of the students at the same time leading to expansion of their required skill–sets. It provides them with a wide spectrum to explore, encouraging their versatility and nurturing the same. Continuing the spirit of creative expression, the BFA at Sushant focuses on multi and inter disciplinary approaches along with the use of new media

in art practice. It is not intended at creating a singular focus in traditional mediums only. The importance given to Art as thinking and willingness to deploy new media and new techniques – digital or other is what differentiates Bachelors at Fine Arts at Sushant from other such programmes. The programme is unique in shaping the visual sensibilities of students while giving them the opportunity to work within the confines of a studio space as well as interact with faculty members, professional artists, industry experts and their peer group. They will explore various avenues of application of their artistic and creative skills such as in the fields of Public and Urban Art, Media and entertainment industry, Installation/Site specific Art, Graphic Design, Animation and Advertising.


Eligibility: Minimum of 50% aggregate marks in class 12th or equivalent from any stream

“Pratibimb”- An Art Exhibition at Sushant University

The Exhibition is taking place at JK Choudhury Gallery, E block, Sushant University. The exhibition encompasses A wide range of works by BFA students. From Traditional techniques like Tempera, Gouache on Paper, Sculpture making To modern techniques like Photography, Digital design, Character design, Animation, etc. are taught in the university.

Sushant University took an effort to start a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2021 so that students from Gurgaon and nearby place can join and nurture their creative abilities easily. The program follows a multi-disciplinary approach and is carefully designed by top professionals in the field incorporating the best practices followed by international and Indian universities. It elevates students’ knowledge and prepare them for the competitive global market. Since its inception in 1989, the School of Art and Architecture (SAA) has strongly emphasized art as an integral part of education. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is a four-year degree program that emphasizes multi – and interdisciplinary methods and the use of new media in art practice, keeping the same spirit of creative expression.

The course has been approved by UGC. Through this program, students can develop their personalities as artists within a global framework, with a wide range of opportunities to explore and experiment beyond traditional academics.

Students here are given exposure to modern art and industrial trends, they are motivated to innovate using new media and the latest technology. Also, interaction with working professionals is an integral part of trraining to keep them up to date with the market.

To procure a seat in the program, students need to have minimum pass marks aggregate in 10+2(any stream) from a recognized board or equivalent. Furthermore, they have to go through an aptitude test in the form of an interactive session and an interview.

The specialization offered in the college are Painting and Applied Arts. First year also called as the foundation year students will grasp an overall knowledge of different areas of art for example Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Design, Computer Applications in Art and Graphics, the Introduction to Fundamentals of Visual Arts, Introduction to Indian Art and Aesthetics and also English communication and Environmental studies are offered as ability enhancement module.

Further, from 2nd year onward students are given chance to choose their field of study according to their interest. Specializations are introduced after the foundation year. Different subjects that are taught in Applied Art and Painting are as follows.

Applied Arts

Graphic Design, Typography, Drawing and Illustration, Animation (2D and 3D), User Interface design, Photography, History of Visual Communication and Design, Advertising profession and practice, Lino cut as a discipline specific Elective.

Painting

Still life, Portrait, landscape/Outdoor and Composition, traditional methods and techniques of representation like Mural, Miniature painting techniques, Tempera, Wash techniques, Contemporary Art practices, Digital methods and techniques of visualization, Art photography, Drawing, Art History, Portfolio Development and Animation, Sculpture, Print Making as discipline specific electives.

These art works are made by using traditional painting technique, which requires preparing canvas, making the layout and painting with either acrylic paints or oil paints. The process allow students to get comfortable with the material and to create something unique using their creative thinking process

Gouache painting

– Gouache is a traditional Indian technique of painting in which a gum or an opaque white pigment is added to watercolors to produce opacity. In watercolor the tiny particles become enmeshed in the fiber of the paper; in gouache the color lies on the surface of the paper, forming a continuous layer, or coating.

Still life

– Still life is an art practice where real objects are placed in an aesthetic setting and then it is observed and studied by the students. It allows students to empower there observational skills.

Sculpture

- In sculpture making students are encouraged to build 3d objects based on their surroundings and interest. The process involves building 3d forms in clay, further taking a mould out of it’s structure and casting the final product.
