The MDes programme in Social Design is aimed at enabling design professionals for the social sector. Typically, graduates of this programme will become leaders and practitioners in the non-profit, philanthropy, government and social impact fields, with a focus on effective, human, and strategic ways in collaboration with organizations that work in the social sector, these practitioners will aim to advance the sector as a whole.
A system thinking approach which is analytical, relationship‐oriented and holistic along with strategic planning skills, ensures that such professionals are able to enhance any organization’s activities and lead to its intended outcome in the programme, human centered design approach will be taught, which is action‐oriented, deeply human, and experimental. At School of Design, we believe that social sector leaders and practitioners can see the bigger picture and the myriad of connections, while staying grounded in the lives and behaviors of real people, and determining where best to intervene.
A first‐of‐its‐kind programme, the M.Des in Social Design brings students in direct contact with the social issues. The first‐year intensive curriculum in‐campus is supplemented with an eight‐month guided internship in the second year with field organizations working in the social sector. The programme culminates in a thesis project that opens the way for professional engagement in the field at many levels.

Eligibility: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline (Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, B.Sc in Environmental Science and other liberal arts degrees will be given preference).
