As a designer I am passionate to make my environment beautiful, eco-friendly and sustainable. Being in awe of India’s rich heritage, traditional embroidery like Zardozi, Chamba Rumal (HP), Akoybi (Manipur) & universally appealing Khadi I chose to contemporize these in my home furnishing collection (Window curtain, Floor cushions). I was inspired to help revive those while working with Honble Jaya Jaitley ji at Dastkari Haat Samiti for my internship. The organization gave me a chance to work closely with their seasoned embroiderers. I innovated on a theme of extinct birds by filling their names artistically with calligraphic patterns (Akshara), so as to put a thought of awareness in the buying customer of what we are missing in our environment. I also designed personal use items (evening bags and small notebook covers) using sustainable fabric and recyclable material. At SSD we were fortunate to explore on amazing classic weaves using eco friendly threads and leather alternates while designing accessories (Dhurries, Stoles ,Poncho). Today I see an opportunity in crisis Eminent designer Ritu Beri’s consistent motivation at our campus to work on Khadi also brought out the best in me towards ATMNIRBHAR BHARAT and a designer who makes a safe future.
