TITLE – THE TRUTH UNFOLDS

TEAM – AASHNA JOLLY, AASHNA SHARUN, ABHIVANDAN VATS, AMIT RAJ

Using George Orwell’s classic Animal Farm as the impetus, the objective was to express a personal interpretation of the novel through a visual medium. We began by considering aspects addressed in the Novel compared with intercultural contexts. Through our ideation, we were drawn to explore the Anti-Sikh Massacre of 1984 in India. The project is a fictionalised account based amidst the riots in 1984, a bus seat narrating the horrific incident that took place moments before the bus was lit on fire.

The project is therefore an experiential place using monochrome canvases to depict the inside of the bus. Sound and light further added to the space confided by the canvases, to allow passengers to hear the story of the bus as it drives through the burning city, over streams of blood and bodies, glaring its headlights to snapshots of anonymous killers with their victims.
