Title of the talk:”Conservation of Taj Mahal: Linking Architecture-Engineering-Management”

In the series of Platform lectures on 21-9-2015 Mr.Navin Piplani, delivered a lecture on “Conservation of Taj Mahal: Linking Architecture-Engineering-Management” on September 21, 2015 at Sushant University. Taj Mahal, is a world heritage site and a major tourist destination in the country. The talk centered on the multidisciplinary efforts for conservation of Taj, a world heritage site and a major tourist destination and structures around it. Navin detailed out the process explaining the involvement of managers, engineers and architects at various stages of the conservation and emphasized on revival of art of working with traditional materials like stone and lime. The lecture sensitisized the students to role of heritage structures in present day contexts.

Navin Piplani is a conservation architect, Vice President of ICOMOS, currently appointed as Principal Director of INTACH Heritage Academy, New Delhi. He took up this post after the completion of his role as the Hamlyn-Feilden Fellow and Director of Studies at the Centre for Conservation Studies, Department of Archaeology, The University of York, UK. Navin also runs his architecture conservation practice in Delhi and has acquired knowledge, expertise and skills by working on a range of projects in India and Europe. Since 2002, he has been working as a core member of the Taj Mahal Conservation Collaborative, a multi-disciplinary team of heritage professionals, engaged in the conservation of the World Heritage Site of Taj Mahal. In 2004, Navin assisted Professor A.G. Krishna Menon, an eminent conservationist, for the preparation of the INTACH Charter for the Conservation of Unprotected Architectural Heritage and Sites in India.
