Sanjib Chatterjee – KAARU Architect and Interior Designer

A product of School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, Sanjib Chatterjee has been working on several architectural, interior and product design projects for the last 26 years. He has also exhibited his work as a painter at galleries both Indian and international. Thirteen years ago, Sanjib began his exploration with the timeless arts of India traveling, interacting and working closely with artisan communities across India. Co-founding KAARU ,he has given structure and direction to his search for the common thread that connects art, architecture, craft and design.

KAARU’s design spectrum is spread over Residential, Corporate, Institutional and exhibition projects. Today, it has over 200 traditional artisans from all over India and a team of Carpenters, and other skilled workers along with Architects & Designers with its own production unit in Delhi.

Based on the centuries old art forms of our country, Kaaru is initiating contemporary and sustainable alternatives to the tendencies towards mass production design and homogeneity. KAARU’s work has been exhibited and published in London and Tokyo besides India. Sanjib believes that today design is a very important link between the local and the global.
