Professional Biography 

Professor J.S. Mukul has been working with Sushant University for over two years. He is presently Professor Emeritus in the School of Business and Director International Relations for Sushant University. He has been instrumental in organising the prestigious Platform Lecture Series and guest lectures with foreign dignitaries and visiting faculty, expanding Sushant University's international collaborations, coordinating global immersion programmes and exchanges, participating in international conferences and taking forward the University's global connect. 

By way of background, Mukul joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1981 after completing his post graduation in Political Science with specialization in International Relations. He has been lecturing extensively, including recently in India's 'G20 University Connect' programme. He has been lecturing extensively, including recently as part of India's 'G20 University Connect' programme. 

During his 40 years diplomatic career, Ambassador Mukul was the Dean of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI)/Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), the premier institution in India for training of Indian and Foreign diplomats. Earlier, he was Ambassador of India to the Netherlands. He also served as Ambassador of India to Oman and Consul-General of India in Munich. He has held diplomatic positions in Indian Missions abroad in Damascus, Abu Dhabi, Kandy, Colombo, Geneva and Riyadh, apart from postings in the Ministry of External Affairs, dealing with multilateral economic relations and in-charge of India’s flagship development partnership programme ITEC. He was Ministry’s sous-sherpa for the G-20 process and was involved with six G-20 Summits. 

Ambassador Mukul’s functional areas of specialization are disarmament and economic-commercial work (including trade, investment and development cooperation), both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Further, his geographical area of specialization has been the Arab world, especially the Gulf region, including handling issues relating to the large Indian diaspora community as well as West Europe.
