Short Biography

Deepak Kumar is a seasoned Architect and Urban Planner with over 14 years of professional and academic experience across leading organizations and institutions in India. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 2009, earning the Roll of Honour, and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, in 2013. His professional practice spans a wide range of nationally significant projects, including national design competitions, large-scale residential developments, corporate office buildings, educational campuses, and housing finance initiatives. He has worked with eminent professionals and organizations such as Dr. Bimal Patel, PNB Housing Finance Ltd., and ATS Infrastructure Ltd., where he played a key role in design conceptualization, project planning, and detailed architectural execution.

Deepak began his academic career in 2015 and has since been associated with several reputed institutions, including SPSA, Sonipat; SGI, Gurugram; MBS School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi; and Sushant University, Gurugram. As an educator, he has guided numerous undergraduate thesis and research projects, nurturing critical thinking, design sensitivity, and contextual awareness among students. He has authored and co-authored approximately twelve research papers and continues to actively expand his scholarly contributions. His current research interests focus on the evolution of government office buildings in Delhi since Independence, examining changes in architectural expression, policy frameworks, and urban identity.

At Sushant University, Deepak has further enriched his academic practice through engagement with a vibrant research culture, and collaboration with a diverse and interdisciplinary faculty community. These experiences have strengthened his pedagogical approach and supported his ongoing research pursuits. His core strengths lie in architectural design processes, urban planning, housing, and professional practice, guided by his belief that “the process is more important than the product.” Actively involved in faculty development programs, conferences, academic juries, and collaborations, he has also delivered invited lectures, including sessions on “Design Approach” at MRSPTU Bathinda and Symbiosis University, Pune. His contributions have been recognized through several prestigious national and academic awards.

Evolving Architecture: A Study on the Transformation of Government Office Buildings in capital city Delhi, since Independence.
