Teachers’ Day

Our emotions are touched, our thoughts are freed, and a teacher takes our hands. They serve as a mentor, friend, and philosopher. There is no way to downplay the importance of teachers. In many countries around the world, the day designated for teachers in schools, colleges, and universities is referred to as Teacher’s Day. The day changes depending on the country. The fifth of October is observed as World Teachers’ Day in every country. In India, it has become tradition to recognise Teachers’ Day on September 5th since 1962.

Teachers act as genuine role models of knowledge and wisdom, nurturing and educating students. They enlightened a world that was previously dark due to ignorance. Our instructors are the real pillars of our success. They assist us in broadening our knowledge, honing our skills, raising our confidence, and choosing the best path for success.

Every year on September 5, teachers’ day is observed nationwide to honour their contributions to society. It is an occasion for celebration to acknowledge the advances that teachers have made to our lives. The significant occasion takes place on the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a passionate supporter of education and served as India’s second president and first vice president.

The history of Teachers’ Day:

In 1962, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was selected to serve as president of India. He was urged to allow his friends and former students to celebrate his birthday. Radhakrishnan thought it would be a great honour for him if September 5 were made Teachers’ Day. By making the request, he demonstrated his loyalty to and affection for instructors. Every year on September 5 since Radhakrishnan was elected president of India in 1962, Teachers’ Day has been honoured.

In his book “Political Thinkers of Modern India,” he emphasised the value of teachers and education in a society like Democratic India, which was still in its early stages of development. He argues that teachers play a significant role in the development of a country and that as a result, they deserve greater respect. He was a philosopher in addition to thinking and instructing. According to a book he previously wrote on the Bhagwad Gita, a teacher is “the one who prioritises presentation to converge diverse currents of thinking to the same purpose.”

By the time he entered politics, the majority of the political leaders of the day, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad, supported his nation-building ideology. His skills have been shown in the political arena as well. He had the political insight to anticipate the challenges. Likewise, possesses the strength required to reprimand party leaders for their slackness and tardiness. In 1947, he first warned the former members of Congress about the serious threats that corruption and nepotism represent. We are dealing with it right now! Of course, such a man deserves a standing ovation. Therefore, this day is observed in order to promote the virtues and tenets of a true teacher.

Teacher Appreciation Day:

Teacher’ Day is one such occasion that teachers and students alike look forward to. The day is important to the kids because it provides them a chance to thank their instructors for working so hard to give them a top-notch education. Since the celebration with them recognises and honours their accomplishments, teachers look forward to it.

On this day, one could be motivated by Radhakrishnan’s life and work in addition to thinking back on their own instructors and mentors. Radhakrishnan was raised in a small town and through schooling rose to fame as a politician and innovative teacher. The trip has a big chance of inspiring the nation’s youth.
