Yoga is an ancient practice of mind and body that is originated in India. Yoga can be traced back to northern India over 5,000 years ago. It involves movement of body to promote mental and physical well-being.

Yoga is commonly understood as a therapy or exercise for health and fitness, the goal of yoga is far reaching. yoga is about systematizing oneself with the universe.

Yoga does not address to any religion, belief system or community.

Yoga works on the individual mind, body, emotion, and energy.

Yoga has divided into six categories.

  • Hatha yoga
  • Bhakti yoga
  • Raja yoga
  • Karma yoga
  • Jnana yoga
  • Tantra yoga
  • Hatha Yoga – It is the branch of yoga that practices on Physical yoga postures, which typically lasts 45 minutes to 90 minutes. It involves breathing, yoga asana and meditation which help in developing strength and stress-free life. It was introduced by yogi Swatmarama ji in the 15th century in India.

  • Lower levels of depression.
  • Strength flexibility.
  • Relieve back pain and stress.
  • Bhakti Yoga –  It is the ideal approach to focuses on devotion and devotional practices. God is love and love is God.

It does not use poses during practice. Instead, you can practice Bhakti through devotional carol, the direction of unconditional love to all of creation. It is considered the oldest form of yoga with its root in the Vedas.

  • Raja yoga –  Raja yoga is the king of yoga’s. It concerns directly with the mind. It is a form of mediation that is accessible to people of all background. Meditation is a state of being in that place just beyond everyday consciousness. It was first mentioned in the 16th century in the yoga sutras of Patanjali.

  • Improve quality of sleep.
  • Overcome negative thought.
  • Enhance memory and concentration.
  • Karma yoga – It basically means doing your duty without getting attached to the result. We do things without expecting to gain anything from it. It helps to find your purpose from birth to death. Give up your ego to serve people and inanimate object. Karma yoga was first outlined in the Bhagwat Gita, in 700 verse Hindu scripture.

  • Jnana yoga – Jnana is a Sanskrit term that means “spiritual knowledge” or “wisdom”. It is suitable for people of an intellectual nature. It is said to be one of the most difficult and complex amongst all yoga. A follower of jnana yoga needs to possess great will power and intellectual process to discipline the mind.

  • It experiences rapid healing.
  • You find a deeper sense of satisfaction.
  • Tantra yoga – It is the type of yoga that intertwines many different techniques, such as mantra meditation, visualization,  mudras, pranayama and inception to study the inner    universe through our human body.
  • Advantages of Tantra yoga
  • Increase capacity for intimacy.
  • Better understanding of love for oneself.
  • Increased flexibility.

Now a days modern yoga focuses on inner peace and physical energy. Ancient yoga does not emphasis on fitness. Instead it focuses on mental state of human.

There are different types of yoga available .It depends on person to person to choose their style according to their physical agility.
