LGBTQ+ Community & their Challenges

We live in a beautiful world that God has created for us with so much love and peace.

He created beautiful nature around us and recreated himself in the form of human beings, animals, birds, etc.  He has filled the world with images of himself in every country, every tribe, and every language so that nobody would miss the point of his creation.

God has created this beautiful world, then who are we to question his creation? Who are we to question other people about how they look?

Imagine having a secret which is not actually a secret, but if your secret is revealed to the  world maybe your family will disown  you or society may not accept you as  you are.

In this world, some people are not treated as normally and equally as all of us. One such community which is judged with inequality and looked at with discriminating eyes in the society is the LGBTQ+ community.

What is the LGBTQ+ community?

LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,  Transgender, Queer. We live in a society where these people, around the world face violence and inequality and are sometimes tortured, even betrayed because of whom they love, how their appearance is, or who they are.

In every step of their life, they face challenges.  People (non-LGBTQ+) around them treat them as if they are suffering from some kind of disease, or they are abnormal, or untouchable.

Why are we doing this to them? Have they done anything wrong with us? Have they not treated us rightly? No! Then at every step of our life why do we treat them as if they are different from us.

Around the world, the LGBTQ+ community faces many problems.

  1. VIOLENCE

The LGBTQ+ community experiences violence towards their sexuality or gender identity. People (non-LGBTQ+)  make fun of them, maintain distance from them, or start abusing them every chance they get. They get hatred from their friend circle in school when they come across their sexuality they feel alone because we as a society don’t accept them as they are. At every point of their life, we as a human make them realize that they are different.  Homophobic society pressurizes them to such an extent that pushes them to the verge of killing themselves.  Why? Just because they feel more physically and emotionally inclined toward the same gender.  Many people around the world from The LGBTQ+ community get murdered and never get justice. Now, in  some western countries, there are some special laws to

protect the LGBTQ+ community and if they experience violence then it would amount to a crime in the eyes of laws and be a punishable offence.

2. EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION

We teach our children that knowledge always matters, and no matter what we should be passionate about our goals. Then everyone should be entitled to equal rights in their fields. Why are some people not appreciated for their hard work,  why do they get fired from their jobs just because they are different in their preferences? And if they stand for themselves and question the authorities they get unsatisfactory/fabricated answers.

The LGBTQ+ community is still not accepted in many significant fields like defense services etc., despite their rights being recognized by the law in various countries. “We as human beings, have to make up our minds that  individual’s hard work matters or their sexuality.”

3. POVERTY

Research shows that discrimination done by anti-LGBTQ+ has harmful effects on LGBTQ+ workers’  economic well-being, leading to high rates of unemployment, homelessness, poor health, and food insecurity. Due to inequality in the work fields, it was found that LGBTQ+ workers are more likely to earn less annually compared to others (non-LGBTQ+). I always find transgender people begging on the roads since they have very limited sources of earning. This is particularly unfair not to mention unfortunate for the sustainable development of the community.

4. HEALTH CARE

According to the research there exist social discrimination in health care access for the LGBTQ+ community. This leads to higher rates of disease, illness, drug use, mental illness, and obesity among the population.  Despite all these, it has been found that few health insurance companies deny recovery of the insurance and hospitals deny necessary medical care to them.

It is unimaginable what they go through emotionally after being subjected to such discrimination. Imagine what if your friends make fun of you about how you look or how you dress up?  So how can someone be judged on the basis of their sexuality or gender preferences? Everyone in this world has the right to be treated equally and live as they choose to.

If LGBTQ+ people are different from us then so be it.

So it’s time to unite together and fight for their equal status and rights and eliminate the discrimination from society.

“The fight over section 377 of the Indian penal code is about the difference between these two worlds not about normal or abnormal people, it’s about respect, it’s about being recognised as normal people and living their life with their loved ones without being judged by the society”.
