What do we mean when I say ‘ blinkered people ‘?
Certainly, reflecting to the fickle mindedness of the people and how unwilling they are to understand the beliefs of others. Where their approach is narrow and other’s approach ignored.
Now what do we mean my ‘strange creatures’?
Stranger as in their peculiar nature or because we see them as a blinkered person?!
The topic is picked up from the movie named ‘fantastic beasts and where to find them’, but funny how its relevant to a non-fictional world where sometimes our blinkered attitude towards our own kind makes them feels like the strange creatures. I’m not talking about the general ignorance which is the resulting consequence of some conflict between people, the topics about the whole serious out casting of the people whether it’s at a school level between children or on a larger scale, for example, like the caste system in Indian society where the majority of its people are treated as an outcast because of its people’s blinkered attitude.
This barrier of differentiation between the normal and strange is a total reflection of one’s mindset. Just like how it’s said that the ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, similarly, normal or strange is in the mindedness of the beholder. How often in past, several bloodsheds and wars have been done in the name of not-accepted-by-the-society. These stereotypical self-made norms by the people and for its people is what is the root cause of this. Our minds being brainwashed for what to say yes/no to, depends on how much the society will be ready to accept us.
Gradually, with the changing time, it is very much expected for these mindsets to be changed as well but nothing so far is happening becomes a genuine concern. In today’s time you cannot dictate a woman that she is not eligible to be a CEO because of gender biasedness, similarly if we talk about reverse sexism, we can’t ask a man not to become a chef because he is a man and his place is not in the kitchen. These judgements of society have the power to manipulate a person within the area in their reach. An individual’s pure potential is in his/her true unrestricted self and if we take away that only from them, then all that we would be left with are only the puppets of the society and it’s norms.
The pivot is not about categorizing people into the blocks of normal and strange. It is about whether or not accepting the people as they are. It’s not about whether they like their Maggie with or without ketchup, it’s about respecting that this is where their true self lies and that is how they enjoy their parts of these little things. It’s been ages where so many people have been sleeping on the graves of their dreams silently, screaming for these invisible chains of judgements to be broken. It’s high time that the people are freed from these chains of societal rules and mindset is changed, especially in a country like India where we have people belonging to diverse backgrounds. Thus, to ensure that everyone in the society feels included, it is imperative that such ill mindset is removed.
