IT sector is the most versatile and dynamic sector. Industry is adopting new tools, techniques and technologies on quick pace. Outdated technology is also on the verge of discard. Workforce with obsolete technology should train themselves on recent technology. This is a good sign for the industry that it is opting for new ideas and technologies which can get better growth but academia also needs to inculcate same technology in the course-curriculum of the students. So that academia and industry can work in tandem.
In recent past, there were lot of gaps in academia and industry; and it was very tough for the students to get the job because of inferior quality of education and outdated curriculum formulated for academic purpose. But things are changing on quick pace and academia is designing and running the courses in collaboration with the industry so that students can get exposer of recent technology and can be trained and consumed by industry on handsome salaries.
Programming languages are a very important part of the curriculum of students most of the streams. Because of high importance of programming languages, it has been included in the syllabus of students of primary schools. Most of the online learning platforms are also grooming programming skills of the students. But still industry is not getting employable skills in the job seekers and it is very costly for the industry to train employees on recent programming skills. These issues are looming because only basic knowledge is imparted in academia. Only a few students are able to implement programming skills in projects as a part of curriculum.
Industry visits and Internships are very important part of student curriculum. Only a few institutes and organizations are participating in this exercise religiously. Most of the companies are offering certificates to the students but not allowing students to work on ongoing projects.
But I must say, universities like Sushant University Gurgaon, one of the best private universities of Delhi-NCR, are working as crusader in academia and resolved these issues. The School of Engineering, regarded as one of the best engineering schools of the University, running most of the courses like B Tech in Computer Science Engineering with specialization in Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Production Engineering, Renewal Energy, IoT and 5G, Civil Engineering in Smart Cities, Mechanical Engineering in Digital Manufacturing, Bachelor in Computer Application in Banking and Finance and various M Tech courses like Environmental Civil Engineering, and Structural Civil Engineering in collaboration with industry partners which allow them to design course-curriculum with current industry needs and demands. These industry partners also participate in teaching-learning process, providing internships on live projects and hiring students.
I hope this bridge will bring a good balance in academia and industry for the future growth of the nation.
