“Effective Communication Tools of Spatial and Urban Planning”

One of the amazing opportunities that School of Planning and Development, of Sushant University, one of the best University in Delhi-NCR, is offering not just to its newly enrolled students, but also to everyone is the CAPSTONE programme. It is an Online Certification Bridge Programme for people to learn the various software skills that could prove to be a powerful tool in not only the planning profession but others as well.

This six-week long programme will continue till 12th of August and has the overall theme of “Effective Communication Tools of Spatial and Urban Planning”. The programme has been divided in three major sections, of two weeks each. The first week focused on the use of Microsoft office software such as word, excel, PowerPoint along with the creating questionnaires on Google forms. Learning the basics of these softwares is important for gaining an understanding on how to format formal reports, conduct statistical and graphical analysis using excel, and representing the data in an efficient and visually appealing manner

The second week aimed at imparting skills related to AutoCAD and REVIT which is an effective tool for drafting layouts and generating 2D and 3D models. While Revit is a design and documentation solution that supports all phases and disciplines in a building project, AutoCAD is a general drawing application with wide use.

The ongoing session of CAPSTONE 3 which began on 1st August is focused on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). By generating maps and scenes, GIS users can arrange, visualize and analyze many layers of data. Users may find patterns, comprehend trends, keep track of changes, and react to events with the help of clear visualization of various types of data, enabling better decision-making.

The students enrolled in the planning course and attending the CAPSTONE programme, overall gave good feedback:

“I cannot overstate the importance of this program. It provided me with a wonderful opportunity to learn and get equipped with tools and techniques necessary in the field of Urban Planning, and also gave an outstanding platform to get acquainted with my batchmates and faculty members. All the faculty members were extremely patient, understanding and responsive towards our questions and needs. The program did a spectacular job preparing me for the upcoming academic session. It not just added on to my knowledge of various softwares like MS-Office, AutoCAD and Revit but taught me a lot of new things about them as well. Also, by working on various projects in each of these softwares, I was able to understand their usage and implementation in a better way.” – Swati Sisoudiya
