Student Engagement: Transforming Educational Landscape

Benjamin Franklin has once said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

Learning becomes meaningful when the learner is engaged and immersed in the learning process completely. It becomes productive when their attention and curiosity is aroused, imagination soars high, critical thinking skills expand manifold, creativity reaches to sky high and they meddle  with the complex problems of the world  culling out innovative solutions using problem solving and design thinking.

Student engagement has become a buzz world in modern education system. Gone are the days of chalk and board method. The experiential learning pedagogy has completely revolutionized the education system. Student is no longer the passive recipient of the teaching learning process, rather emerged out to be an active stakeholder in the learning process.  Flipped classroom is one such model where students remain engaged through guided learning in the form of debates, presentations, lab experiments, peer assessments and reviews. Think, pair share is another collaborative teaching strategy which is used to help students form ideas and share with the other members of the group.

Project based learning also remains another engagement strategy for the students where they acquire a profound and hands on knowledge by grappling with real world challenges and problems through some meaningful projects.

Cooperative learning is one such approach which aims to organize classroom activities in to academic and social learning experiences.  Extracurricular activities such as music, dance, sports, and literary events promote team work, cooperation, collaboration, physical endurance and resilience. These activities give platform to unleash creativity and reinforce the learning in a real world context as well as increase the engagement.

On International women’s day Centre for Soft Skills organized competitions to not only sensitize students about the gender equality and women empowerment but it also fuelled their imagination. Competitions such as one minute video challenge to highlight the success stories of women, Blogathon to hone creative writing skills, creative pro, Poster/ Painting/Bookmark competition  to unlock the  creative quotient  and Group discussion to encourage group learning and giving free reigns to  expression and intellect. Along with that mesmerizing performances of singing, dancing, musical instrument saxophone by students added a new fervor and fresh vibe to it.

Another one such event Promethean encouraged out of box thinking by keeping innovative thinking at foray.

Active participation of students in sports day events, club activities ensure holistic development of students which is a recurrent feature of the culture of one of the best universities of Delhi NCR Sushant University which keeps the students ahead for life by unraveling their potential and increasing engament vital to get ahead in today’s competitive world.
