The School of Planning and Development (SPD), Sushant University came into existence in 2018 while the Urban Planning programmes at the University started in 2013 as part of the Department of Planning with the introduction of undergraduate programme in Urban and Regional Planning. These were aimed to meet the growing demand for urban planners in India. The post - graduate programme in Urban Planning was later initiated in 2017, followed by the introduction of post-graduate courses in Transport Planning and Policy and Governance. The ongoing transformation from a primarily rural to majorly an urban society requires strategic investments of funds and technology enabled by efficient deployment of skills. Numerous students across the country had enrolled for the course, which was developed based on the principles of heritage, sustainability, critical thinking, art and aesthetics; the pedagogy of the course focused on 'Hands on learning'.
With the Finance Minister’s 2022 budget announcement of major investment in the capacity building of the planning profession, a career in urban planning has become a prominent career option for India's youth!
SPD has been instrumental in laying the foundation of the Planning education in Gurugram region for nearly a decade now. Since its inception, the School has engaged with the local community, city planning agencies, NGOs, industry experts, for various studio projects and course curriculum.
The four year ITPI recognized programme endeavours to establish the important role of physical planning to achieve the highest quality of life in the city and regional spaces, along with their growth.
The five year integrated ITPI recognized programme combines both B.Plan and M.Plan degree to provide students with a higher degree of sense of the urban area planning and imparts students with higher professionalism.
The two year ITPI recognized programme aims at imparting education to the next generation of Planners on urban planning principles and techniques while developing cognitive skills required to discern urban complexities.
This post- graduation two year course in Urban Transport Planning is a specialised knowledge domain designed to equip students with a holistic understanding on planning, operations, technology, design and management of urban transport systems.
The two year post- graduation course in Environmental Planning teaches students how to use scientific methods to evaluate numerous environmental aspects in order to plan for ecologically sustainable development of human settlements and regions.
Being located at the heart of the educational hub Gurugram, SPD is well-knit into the knowledge grid of the National Capital Region. This has enabled the School to offer a unique research education leading towards PhD in Planning and its allied fields.
School of Planning and Development (SPD), Sushant University (Erstwhile Ansal University) aims to establish an ecosystem of quality teaching and research and this vision, an ongoing process, shall be attained by way of educating students to become leaders in Planning. We intend to achieve the mission through teaching the undergraduate and graduate courses in planning that link theory with practice by emphasizing on critical thinking and creative communication, hands-on learning, and community engagement.
