Founder Centenary Celebration

 

On September 1st, 2022 we celebrate the centenary birth anniversary of our beloved founder Professor M.M. Rana.

Prof. M.M. Rana has been Fellow of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation (U.S.A.) from 1947-51. He has also been Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects since 1970. From 1969-71, he was the Director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, New Delhi. He has served as Chief Architect to the New Delhi Municipal Council – 1972-74 as well as Chief Architect to the ‘ Design Group’ and New Delhi Redevelopment Advisory Committee appointed by the Government of India for Re-Development of New Delhi – 1974. Prof. Rana was Chief Architect, Government of India between 1978-79.

He has been awarded the Civic Citation Award of “PADMA SHRI” in 1967 for his Design of Two Pavilions of India in New York and Montreal, Canada as well as for other Projects in New Delhi. Some of his well known projects include:

Prof. Rana was the Founder Dean of the Sushant School of Art and Architecture in 1989. He is PATRON of the Lutyens Trust, London U.K. (1997) which was established to protect the spirit and substance of Lutyens’ greatest work of Planning and building the city of New Delhi including the Rastrapathi Bhawan and other major projects in Great Britain and Europe designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. He is the only Indian and Architect to be a Patron of The Lutyens Trust.

Shri M M. Rana sahab ( As known in Delhi ) is with Jawaharlal Nehru Saroji Naidu and Vijyalaxmi Pandit.

After receiving " Padmashree" Award at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Shri M.M. Rana sahab with Priminister Smt. Indira Gandhi .President of India. Shri V. V. Giri and Maharaja of Kashmir. Dr. Karansinhji

Mr Theo J.J. Groothuizen,with a background in in Industrial Design Engineering, TU Delft Netherlands is a Senior Consultant for International Collaboration in areas of R&D and Innovation. With a career spanning more than 4 decades, that has taken him across the globe in different roles, Mr Groothuizen, has explored innovation in the industry, creative thinking in engineering and building robust networks.

Audience- Faculty and students of M Arch Interior Architecture, Urban Design, landscape Architecture and Architecture Heritage conservation Programme of School of of Art and Architecture and School of Design. (Or the students and faculty of Design Cluster, SU)

The Talk-Mr Groothuizen showcased through his experience and journey, the need for Research and Design Thinking as a tool of the Entrepreneurship mind. He emphasized the need for the contextual responses as a start point of building a practice. He ended with the statement-'If you want a good answer you need to raise a good question.'
